tattoos of appliances

I found this poll of tattoos of appliances on Flickr, and I'm loving it. I love the typewriters, specially the one below. I had no idea so many people had it.

Also love the fan.

I would love to have their children

Matt Lauer - I got the hots for Matt. He's the New York man. Experienced. Refined, with a sense of humor. Sweet enough to interview Britney Spears. Tough enough to crush Tom Cruise and put Ann Coulter in her place. Plus we've all seen what's under that suit.

Chandler Bing - the perfect combination of sweet, awkward and funny. Not too mushy gushy, not too careless. I would love a Chandler Bing in my life.

Adam Duritz (singer, Counting Crows) - S-E-X-Y. Plus you can hop on his choo-choo and he'll be your engine driver in a bunny suit. Who needs more?

Ben Harper - Number One: he can sing. Number Two: he's hot. Number Three: he's hot. Number four: he's hot and one of the most stylish men ever.

Common - he's a poet, a singer, the right mixture of urban and soul. He makes "the pimp in me may have to die with you" sound awesome. Plus the man is beautiful. The definition of "fly".

Mos Def - he's everything Common is with a sexy Brooklyn accent. He has the whole conscious, socially-aware thing down. Not exactly cute, but cute is overrated. I love everything about him. How can you not love someone that says "then she arrived like daybreak inside a railway tunnel/ like the new moon/ like a diamond in the mines/ like high noon to a junker." Most definitely fresh.

"George " - he's the perfect friend. He'll share his food with you, lend you a shoulder to cry on, laugh at your jokes, watch you take a shower without getting a hard-on. He allows himself to be fragile. The ideal man with lower levels of inappropriate testosterone.

Craig Ferguson - I still find it amazing that an Scottish man managed to succeed as the host of a late night talk show without compromising his sense of humor. He knows when to be serious, he's honest. He refused to make fun of Britney Spears when the was she epitome of the butt-of-the-joke. That's the night I found out I loved him. A man with common sense: sexy.

all time favorite

by e.e. cummings

somewhere i have never travelled, gladly beyond
any experience, your eyes have their silence:
in your most frail gesture are things which enclose me,
or which i cannot touch because they are too near

your slightest look will easily unclose me
though i have closed myself as fingers,
you open always petal by petal myself as Spring opens
(touching skilfully,mysteriously) her first rose

or if your wish be to close me, i and
my life will shut very beautifully ,suddenly,
as when the heart of this flower imagines
the snow carefully everywhere descending;
nothing which we are to perceive in this world equals
the power of your intense fragility: whose texture
compels me with the color of its countries,
rendering death and forever with each breathing

(i do not know what it is about you that closes
and opens;only something in me understands
the voice of your eyes is deeper than all roses)
nobody, not even the rain, has such small hands

Haiku # 6

by Jill Scott

Just the other day
I thought about you so hard
I blew my ice cream

Across Your Bread

by Jill Scott

I'm juss gon say what I need to
juss gon put it on the table
And spread it across your bread

As much as I didn't want
I have stumbled
tripped
fallen ova myself in love with every molecule of
you

The walk on you
The way you out and then in breathe
Simply your eyes man
got my thighs swellin' and my knees beggin' to part
I do
I do
love everything about you
All that makes you you
And what I do not know, I swear I will love too
If you just show me

I know it's crazy but I swear
My heart doesn't pump blood
When you are not near me
I juss walk my way through life comatose
Till I hear my name in your key
I juss stay
Hoping, wishing, praying for the moment you say it's cool for me to
give you what I got
Cool for me to give you what I keep
Cool for me to give you what is fresh behind the apples
And the pears but you don't
Won't
Accept it then accept it then return it
My logic understands but my back is tired of the weight
My feet are swollen and my fingers ache from writing

Don't you see?
I'm willing
Willing
To go the extra continent
Willing
To carry that extra gallon and love that extra kind
I am placing myself on the table
Spreading myself across your bread
So, say something
It's your move

a birth story

A minute more of pushing and all the air is suddenly sucked out of the room. All sound, too, except for this one sound that I can't quite put my finger on. I picture Hollywood sound effects artists trying to replicate it: a water balloon pressed into a bed of nails; half-set jello thrown against a wall; a jellyfish dropped from a ten-foot ladder. Squerlch. Thud. My son, slipping between the hands that were there to catch him, lands with a liquid parachute on the bed, gray as a submarine. (read more)

Moment of Inertia

by Debra Spencer

It's what makes the pancake hold still
while you slip the spatula under it
so fast it doesn't move, my father said
standing by the stove.

All motion stopped when he died.
With his last breath the earth
lurched to a halt and hung still on its axis,
the atoms in the air
coming to rest within their molecules,
and in that moment
something slid beneath me
so fast I couldn't move.

another stolen post

Have a happy period

This is an actual letter from an Austin woman sent to American company Proctor and Gamble regarding their feminine products. She really gets rolling after the first paragraph. It's PC Magazine's 2007 editors' choice for best webmail-award-winning letter.

Dear Mr. Thatcher,

I have been a loyal user of your 'Always' maxi pads for over 20 years and I appreciate many of their features. Why, without the LeakGuard Core or Dri-Weave absorbency, I'd probably never go horseback riding or salsa dancing, and I'd certainly steer clear of running up and down the beach in tight, white shorts. But my favorite feature has to be your revolutionary Flexi-Wings. Kudos on being the only company smart enough to realize how crucial it is that maxi pads be aerodynamic. I can't tell you how safe and secure I feel each month knowing there's a little F-16 in my pants.

Have you ever had a menstrual period, Mr. Thatcher? I'm guessing you haven't. Well, my time of the month is starting right now. As I type, I can already feel hormonal forces violently surging through my body. Just a few minutes from now, my body will adjust and I'll be transformed into what my husband likes to call 'an inbred hillbilly with knife skills.' Isn't the human body amazing?

As Brand Manager in the Feminine-Hygiene Division, you've no doubt seen quite a bit of research on what exactly happens during your customer's monthly visits from 'Aunt Flo'. Therefore, you must know about the bloating, puffiness, and cramping we endure, and about our intense mood swings, crying jags, and out-of-control behavior. You surely realize it's a tough time for most women.

The point is, sir, you of all people must realize that America is just crawling with homicidal maniacs in Capri pants... Which brings me to the reason for my letter. Last month, while in the throes of cramping so painful I wanted to reach inside my body and yank out my uterus, I opened an Always maxi-pad, and there, printed on the adhesive backing, were these words: 'Have a Happy Period.'

Are you ------ kidding me? What I mean is, does any part of your tiny middle-manager brain really think happiness - actual smiling, laughing happiness, is possible during a menstrual period? Did anything mentioned above sound the least bit pleasurable? Well, did it, James? FYI, unless you're some kind of sick S&M freak, there will never be anything 'happy' about a day in which you have to jack yourself up on Motrin and Kahlua and lock yourself in your house just so you don't march down to the local Walgreen's armed with a hunting rifle and a sketchy plan to end your life in a blaze of glory.

For the love of God, pull your head out, man! If you have to slap a moronic message on a maxi pad, wouldn't it make more sense to say something that's actually pertinent, like 'Put down the Hammer' or 'Vehicular Manslaughter is Wrong',

Sir, please inform your Accounting Department that, effective immediately, there will be an $8 drop in monthly profits, for I have chosen to take my maxi-pad business elsewhere. And though I will certainly miss your Flex-Wings, I will not for one minute miss your brand of condescending bullshit. And that's a promise I will keep. Always. . .

Best,
Wendi Aarons
Austin , TX"

stolen from her.

still, the very cynical side of me

I think it's so ironic that we, girls, are the ones known for dreaming of "Mr. Right" when in reality every other man I meet still firmly believes there actually is a Ms. Right out there just waiting for them.

Would someone please let them know that there is no such thing as a live pin-up-girl? That the whole girl-next-door-book-smart-sexy-stripper type is a product of Hollywood and their fucked-up imagination? Who told men that story and why in the hell do they keep believing that's who they're destined to end up with? I don't know about you, but I quit trying to live up to those standards a looooong time ago.

I wish they would wake up and smell the fucking coffee!

the cynical side of me finds this hilarious

You see, I find the love facade the most offensive part. We're adults. We can handle it. Bitsy should say, ''I'm getting older, and I want companionship.'' Or Bobby should say, ''The hot men don't go for me anymore.'' But don't print invitations and call it love, as if love transforms people and changes molecules, 'cause that's bullshit.

to my big sister

We've been through all kinds of turbulent times but at one point we were just two little ballerinas in the garage of a summer house. She's the one who shared that with me. And I can't think of anyone else who I would have liked to dance with.

Happy birthday to her!
