sobre a moda da caixa baixa

meninas vamos ao shift

[Texto tirado deste eSTE bLOGUE uSA mAIÚSCULAS]

polyester princess

This is a post from Sweet Juniper!, one of my favorite blogs for the longest. It's written by Jim, the dad, who he used to be a lawyer and go by the pseudonym "Dutch". Now he's a Gentleman of Elegant Leisure and goes by his real name.

The mother of one of my daughter's friends asks, "Is she not supposed to play princess?"

I have never told my daughter she couldn't play princesses. We may have had a few conversations about how princesses aren't good role models, but I've NEVER said she couldn't pretend to be one. Apparently while playing at her friend's house, my daughter whispered, "My dad doesn't like princesses. He says they're lazy goodfornothings." Then she proceeded to pull one of those prefabricated princess gowns over her torso and said, "I'll just tell him I was being a fairy." This pleases me, because it shows she is beginning to understand that her highly-opinionated father can be quite difficult, though easily appeased by doing whatever it is he doesn't approve of once well out of sight. This will prove a useful skill as the years go on.

When told this happened, I felt a tinge of guilt. Then the other little girl stood up and said to my daughter, "I AM THE BEAUTIFUL PRINCESS. You must do my bidding. Go and fetch me the finest flower in the land." My daughter reacted with a look of incredulity that could only be translated as, "Fuck that, dude." Or, perhaps less crudely, "My father was right: princesses are bossy and not very nice." She refused the quest, and the princess sulked.

I looked down at them in their ill-fitting polyester costumes, stained with mulberry juice and globs of yoghurt. I could have delivered the coup de grâce right then: I could have pointed out that their threadbare, shoddily-made dresses of imitation satin and tulle made them look more like Courtney Love at the tail end of an Oxycontin binge than any representative of The Crown. But I didn't. As Benjamin Disraeli once said, Everyone likes flattery; and when you come to Royalty you should lay it on with a trowel.

"Worry not, your Highness," I said, winking at my daughter. "I shall fetch my steed and deliver thee the loveliest dandelion in all Detroit."

i have sold my soul to LG

I kid, I kid...

Let me tell you the story.

So I've decided to try something different. A few weeks ago, I got an email from a person at an advertising agency who works for LG inviting me to be part of a project they're developing to launch a new cell phone. I found that very odd considering the fact that I'm no Dooce or no web 2.0 celebrity, so I emailed them back and asked them a series of question: "why me??, where the hell did you find me??, do you KNOW what you're getting yourself into by inviting me??, have you REALLY read my blog??, if I don't like the cell phone can I talk about it??, WHY ME???."

So after kindly replying to my very skeptical email, they made it very clear that this was not just a dumb advertising trick, it's more of a a qualitative product research that uses platforms of the web 2.0 to showcase the interaction of the user with the device. To do that, I'll be uploading to my youtube account 10 quick videos per week for the next 4 weeks. The idea is to capture people's reactions to the interface, design, and features of the cell phone (which is a cute, cheaper version of an iPhone).

Now let's get to the FAQ:

1. Will you be getting paid for this?
I firmly believe this is none of your business. None of you, kind readers, pay my bills. However, I do understand your concern with the credibility of this blog. So the answer is: NOOOO. I will not be getting paid. But if you consider a free cell phone at the end of the project a payment, then YES, I will be getting paid.

2. Are you going to be kissing LG's ass for the next 4 weeks?
No, I will not. The main reason why I chose to be part of this project is the fact that I get to say what I think. Those who really know me know that I would never compromise my ability to criticize in exchange for a cell phone.

3. Are you really that cheap that you would do that just to get a new cell phone?
Again, that would be none of your business. But just because it's Saturday and I got to sleep in, I will answer this one: I have a job, people. Fortunately, I have a decent amount of disposable income to waste on that kind of stuff. I just really want to see how this process works and it's something different to do. I don't sew, I don't knit, I don't collect stamps, I don't practice sports, nor do I have any hobbies. Allow me to try something new, will ya?

Ok, so that's about it. Apparently they'll have a hotsite for this project, so I'll be posting the link as soon as I know it. I'll also be uploading 30 sec. videos on my youtube account regularly, so feel free to check them out if you want to.

Quick note to brazilian bloggers who might be dying to criticize me: EAT ME, DEAR.

if you´re gonna do it, do it right

"...pumping an RSS feed into Twitter alone doesn’t really merit a lot of attention. There’s no non-story 'Twitter exclusive' comments from Salon’s editorial staff, no “@ replies” with the Twitter audience, no follows. No real social media engagement, in other words." [link]

In other words, if your blog is also on Twitter, be relevant in both platforms without being redundant. If I want to know when you post something new, I'll subscribe to your feed. Get it right, will ya?

Thanks, Ferds!

a birth story

A minute more of pushing and all the air is suddenly sucked out of the room. All sound, too, except for this one sound that I can't quite put my finger on. I picture Hollywood sound effects artists trying to replicate it: a water balloon pressed into a bed of nails; half-set jello thrown against a wall; a jellyfish dropped from a ten-foot ladder. Squerlch. Thud. My son, slipping between the hands that were there to catch him, lands with a liquid parachute on the bed, gray as a submarine. (read more)

I apologize in advance for my lack of technical skills

Dear Legally Normal readers,
I sincerely apologize if my new banner doesn't look right on your screen. I have very little idea of what I'm doing when it comes to html, and I am trying hard to learn how to fix that by myself. Also, I apologize for the randomness of my design. It was totally driven by boredom and laziness and does not reflect whatsoever what I would like to see there. I'll get to it when I have time or when I feel like it.
For now, it is what it is.
Love always,
Ana

I will become a decend blogger

Ok, so officially it's been a month I actually posted something here that wasn't a link to a video, a photo or an external link. On March 20, I posted about not posting. But a month before that I, on February 23, I had already posted again about not posting, so clearly I have developed a bullshit cycle so that my readers (???) won't completely leave me and so that my mom can see I'm alive. I am obviously full of it, and if I were the president of blogging, I would totally ban Legally Normal by lack of commitment and originality.

So in the spirit of trying to become a better blogger, and therefore a better human being, I have decided that I will be posting more regularly and I am not allowed to post videos or pictures anymore, unless I have something to add to them. And by adding, I mean at least a paragraph or something that I created with my very own brain.

I am pleased to say that I have officially made the list of links of Minus, and I need to live up to that.

So here are my first bits of original thoughts.

My roommate and I are no longer in good terms. He hasn't even cooked for me in like, 3 weeks. It all started with the day he called me from his car asking me if he could bring some girl over. Of course I said no. And you may think I'm an asshole, but believe me - he's been well aware that one of my main "rules" around here is that there is no sex-having at the spare bedroom of apt 112, which would be mine. I don't know why, and I really don't care if anybody else agrees or not, but I hate when I know people are having sex on the other side of the wall, and it's just not happening. So he made a big fuss about it, tried to yell at me over the phone, we argued, and I've been giving him the silent treatment since then. I don't even know why anymore, but I just want to make a statement, because you HAVE GOT to be crazy to try to yell at me. I mean, fucking crazy. I'm kinda over it by now, it's just that I'm just being lazy. I'll probably start a conversation sometime this week or ask him to bake me a cake.

In other news, I now have cable TV, which is totally and complete ruining my life. I am obsessed with I Love New York, and also the Flavor of Love girls, especially Becky Buckwild. You can see her in the following video, after 2:30 minutes. Actually I will soon have a post dedicated to her. Here's the video:

I don't know how to end this, so I'll end it by leaving with this beautiful piece of footage. Good night peeps, and enjoy the music.

My life; an open book

Today for some reason I happened to visit my old blog which was no longer live, and I found my MoTime inbox full of messages of old faithful readers that wanted to know what happened to me and my blog. I felt bad, and I tried to reply to all of them and guide them here, so any of you got my message, welcome! I am flattered to know that eventhough I don't get too many comments, people are reading this stuff I write.

I guess that's one of the reasons why I keep writing. Not that I write for other people (I feel like I would blog even if I was the only person reading this stuff), but everytime I check my StatCounter I'm surprised to see all the visitors I get, from all over the world. Some are here daily, several times a day, and the majority stays here for at least 20 minutes, which means they came and stayed. I have no idea why, but they do.

So thanks whoever you are and I hope I don't bore you to death.
